Functions of all human body systems - MUST KNOW FOR TEST

Functions of Digestive System 1. Breaks down food into molecules the body can use. 2. Molecules are absorbed into the blood and carried throughout the body. 3. Wastes are eliminated from the body
Functions of Skeletal System 1. Provides shape and support 2. Enables us to move 3. Protects organs 4. Produces blood cells** 5. Stores minerals and other materials
Functions of Muscular System 1. Helps with movement of the body 2. Helps move materials within the body 3. Helps maintain posture and flexibility
Functions of Respiratory System 1. Moves oxygen from the outside environment into the body 2. Removes carbon dioxide and water from the body
Functions of Excretory System 1. Collects waste produced by cells and removes the wastes from the body
Functions of Nervous System 1. Receives information about what is happening both inside and outside your body 2. directs the way in which your body responds to this information 3. helps maintain homeostasis (balance) in your body
Functions of Endocrine System 1. Produces chemicals that control many of body's daily activities 2. Regulates long-term changes such as growth and development
Function of Cardiovascular/Circulatory System 1. Carries needed substances to cells (oxygen, glucose) 2. Carries waste products away from cells (carbon dioxide, water) 3. Carries disease fighting cells and platelets to needed areas
Function of Female Reproductive System 1. Produce eggs 2. Produce hormones such as estrogen 3. If an egg is fertilized - to nourish a developing baby until birth
Functions of Male Reproductive System 1. Produce sperm 2. Produce hormone - testosterone
Functions of Immune System 1. Keep pathogens (organisms that cause disease) out 2. If a pathogen does enter - defend the body against the pathogen
