Asteroid Small rocky bodies in orbit around the sun. (Asteroid Belt between Mars & Jupiter)
Comet Small body of ice, rock and cosmic dust loosely packed together. Tail points away from Sun.
Oort Cloud Where the comets are found, past Pluto.
Meteoroid Small rocky body orbiting the sun. Similar to an asteroid but smaller.
Meteor Bright streak of light caused by a meteoroid burning up in the Earth’s Atmosphere. (Shooting star)
Meteorite Meteoroid that enters the Earth’s atmosphere and strikes the ground.
Axis Planets rotate on this.
Milky Way The name of our spiral galaxy.
Ellipse Shape of the planets orbit.
Rotate Turn on axis. One day.
Revolve To orbit. One year.
Solar System A system of planets or other bodies orbiting a star
Galaxy A system of millions or billions of stars, gas and dust, held together by gravity
Universe All Space
Red star temperature Cool
Blue Star temperature Hot
Stars are classified by: size, color, temp,composition & brightness
Corona Suns outer layer
Core Suns inner layer
Crater formed by rocky objects hitting the surface
Ray Streaks of material outward from a crater
Tides Change of the water level due to gravitational pull
Waxing To see more. Move from New to Full moon
Waning To see less. Move from Full to New moon
Seasons Due to tilt of Earth
Moon phase Changing in the appearance of the moon.

perigee Closest point of moon orbit to earth
apogee Farthest point of moon orbit to earth
nebula A large cloud of gas and dust spread out over a large volume of space.
absolute magnitude How bright an object actually is.
apparent magnitude How bright an object appears in the sky from Earth.
