Understanding Weather

The continuous movement of water from sources on Earth's surface such as lakes, oceans, and plants into the air, onto and over land, into the ground, and back to the surface. water cycle

Clouds that are associated with thunderstorms. cumulonimbus
Clouds that form in layers. stratus
clouds that produce light to heavy, continuous rain. nimbostratus
fog is an example of this type of cloud. stratus
Thin, feathery, white clouds found at high altitudes. cirrus
This prefix is used to describe clouds at high altitudes. cirro
This prefix is used to describe clouds at middle altitudes. alto
Water in solid or liquid form that falls from the air to earth. precipitation
Most common form of precipitation. rain
Forms when rain falls through a layer of freezing air. sleet
Forms when temperatures are so cold that water vapor changes directly to a solid. snow
Lumps of ice that fall from clouds. hail
Large body of air where temperature and moisture content are similar throughout. air mass
