Dynamic Earth

TermDefinition
tectonic plates big hard slabs of rock that live beneath the crust.
tremor when the earth shakes and causes building to fall.
epicentre a spot above the earthquake
hypocentre the uderground bit of a earthquake
crust the layer of earth that humans and other life forms live on.
mantle the third layer of the layer
core the middle of the earth.
fault line the edge of the tectonic plates
primary waves a type of wave of energy that passes solids, liquids and gases
secondry waves a 2nd type of energy waves that only pass through solids
surface waves the surface wave is the wave that causes the most damage to where humans live and goes through liquids and solids
liquefaction when an earthquake ocurs in sandy soil places the water under neath the sandy soil get pushed upwards, and then sinks back down later on
seismograph measures the energy (ripples) produced by the earthquake .
richer scale measures the strength of the earthquake
mercalli scale measures the damage the earthquake produced
molten melted
seismo earthquake
terra earth
after shock a small tremor after the main shock
main shock the earthquake thats causes the most damage
primary effects caused by the earthquake
secondry effects a result of the primary effect
