Light Waves Vocab

TermDefinition
electromagnetic waves waves that can travel through a vacuum. They do not need a medium.
refraction Light is bent when it strikes an object.
absorption Light is absorbed.
reflection Light is reflected.
scattering is the spreading out of light rays in all directions, because particles reflect and absorb the light
cornea transparent protective covering located on the front of your eye.
pupil Black dot in the center of your eye. Light enters your eye through this opening.
iris colorful part of your eye that regulates the size of your pupil
retina creates electrical signals that travel through the optic nerve to the brain.
optic nerve a bundle of nerve fibers that connect the retina with the brain and help us interpret what we see.
