uniformitarianism Geologic processes that operate today operated in the past.
Erosion is the wearing down and carrying away of rocks.
weathering is the process that breaks down rocks and other substances .
mechanical weathering When a rock is physically broken into smaller pieces .
chemical weathering the process that breaks down rocks through chemical changes.
Abrosion refers to the wearing away of rock by rock particles carried by water, ice, wind or gravity.
frost wedging when ice melts water seeps into the cracks deeper.
oxidation is when iron combines with oxygen.
