chemical weathering the process that breaks down rock through chemical changes

frost wedging process that splits rocks when water seeps into cracks and then freezes and expands
oxidation a chemical change in which a substance combines with oxgen as when iron oxidizes forming rust.

decomposer a organism that gets energy from dead organisms
fertility a measure of how well soil supports plant growth
humus dark colored organic material in soil

crop rotation a farmer plants different crops in a field each year
contour plowing farmers plow their fields along the curves of a slope instead of straight rows
conservation plowing dead weeds and crops are tilled into the soil
