crotchet a note with 1 beat
semi-breve a note with 4 beats
minim a note with 2 beats
quaver a note with half a beat
dotted crotchet a note with 1 and a half beats
dotted minim a note with 3 beats
dotted semi-breve a note with 6 beats
crotchet rest a note with 1 beat silence
minim rest a note with 2 beats silence
quaver rest a note with half a beat silence
semi-breve rest a note with 4 beats silence
upbeat a note before the first full bar of music
triplets three notes squashed into the time of 2 notes
auxiliary note is the note one step up or down from a harmony note on both sides
passing note is the middle note of 3 notes that move up by step
