| Hormone | A chemical substance produced in the body that controls and regulates the activity of certain cells or organs. |
| Regulate | The adaption of form or behavior of an organism to changed conditions. |
| Prostaglandins | Any of a group of cyclic fatty acid compounds with varying hormone like effects |
| Feedback (Negative/Positive) | A process in which a system regulates itself by monitoring its own output. |
| Hypothalamus | A region of the forebrain below the thalamus that coordinates both the autonomic nervous system and the activity of the pituitary, controlling body temperature, thirst, hunger, and other homeostatic systems, and involved in sleep and emotional activity. |
| Thyroxine | An iodine-containing hormone secreted by the thyroid gland that increases the rate of cell metabolism and regulates growth. |
| Glands | An organ in the human or animal body that secretes particular chemical substances for use in the body or for discharge into the surroundings. |
