Cell Review Terminology for Benchmark 3/2018

| endoplasmic reticulum | "roadways" for moving materials throughout the cell |
| nucleolus | manufacture ribosome parts (proteins and RNA) |
| cytoplasm | sticky, semi-fluid material inside a living cell in which the other cell organelles are suspended |
| lysosomes | contain digestive ensymes |
| nuclear membrane | encloses the cell's genetic material |
| vacuoles | storehouse for excess water, food, wastes, etc. |
| chloroplasts | green organelles of plant cells where photosynthesis takes place |
| golgi bodies | packages useful materials and secretes them to the outside of the cell |
| chromatin | strands within the nucleus which form chromosomes |
| cell membrane | holds the contents of the cell together |
| DNA | hereditary material that carries the genetic code |
