| vertebrate | an animal with a backbone |
| Amphibian | a vertebrate that has moist skin. They start their lives in the water, but eventually will move to land. |
| Reptile | animals with scales covering their bodies |
| Mammal | animals that have fur or hair and give birth to their young |
| Invertebrate | animals without backbones |
| Arthropods | are invertebrates with jointed legs |
| Insect | Its body has 3 main segments. Its head has 2 antennae, and it has 6 legs. |
| Fish | lives in water and takes in oxygen through gills |
| Birds | has feathers, wings, beaks and lays eggs |
| carnivore | an animal that eats meat |
| herbivore | an animal that eats plants |
| omnivore | an animal that eats both meat and plants |
