extrusive rock igneous rock formed from lava
intrusive rock igneous rock formed from magma
sediment small, solid pieces that come from rocks or living things
weathering the effects of freezing and thawing, plant roots, acid, and other forces on rock.
erosion the process by which running water, wind, gravity, or ice carries broken up rock and soil
deposition the process by which sediment settles out of water or wind carrying it
compaction the process pressed sediment together
cementation the process in which dissolved minerals crystallize and glue particles of sediment together
clastic rock sedimentary rock that is formed by squeezing sediment together
organic rock forms in an area that the remains of plant and animals are deposited in layers
chemical rock forms when minerals dissolved in a water solution crystallize
foliated describes the thin, flat layering found in most metamorphic rocks
rock cycle a series of processes that occur on earths surface and in the crust and mantle that slowly change rocks from one kind to another
