Geologists used two main types of evidence to learn about Earth's interior direct from rock samples indirect from seismic waves
Three main layers of earth. Different size, composition, temperature, and pressure. crust, mantle, and core.
crust Layer of solid rock dry land or ocean floor
mantle hot rock but solid. lithosphere first and asthenosphere second
core metals, iron and nickel. two parts Liquid outer core, solid inner core
Seismic waves waves produced by an earthquake
Pressure Force pressing on an area
Basalt Dark rock with fine texture
Granite Light color course texture
Lithosphere Upper part of the mantle, mixed with crust
Asthenosphere A layer of lava that the lithosphere floats on
Lower Mantle Beneath the Asthenosphere
Outer Core A layer of liquid molten metal, it surrounds the inner core
Inner core Dense ball of solid metal, created by dense pressure
