Meiosis Vocab

TermDefinition
Gene DNA Segments that control the production of proteins. Found on chromosomes
Homologous Chromosomes The chromosomes that make up a pair, 1 chromosome from each parent.
Gamete Sex cells that have half the number of chromosomes, produced by an organism.
Haploid A cell that contains with n number of chromosomes.
Diploid A cell that contains 2n number of chromosomes
Fertilization 1 haploid gamete combines with another haploid gamete.
Meiosis A type of cell division that reduces the number of chromosomes.
Crossing Over Chromosomal segments are exchanged between a pair of homologous chromosomes
