Week 1

QuestionAnswer
Phenomena Two or more objects, events, or ideas that are in relationship with one another; Something to be explained, occurrence.
Ideas Product of organized thought about the origin, nature, boundaries, and significance of phenomena.
Concepts Words or phrases that identify, define, and establish structure and boundaries for ideas generated about phenomena.
Construct A constructed measurable specificity that makes something previously unmeasurable, measurable.
Variable Concepts and constructs that have the ability to vary in their characteristics.
Internal Variable Variable that is actually part of the relationship being examined.
External Variable Variable that is not part of the relationship being examined, but still influences it.
Assumption Assumed truths that influence or have the potential to influence other concepts or propositions.
Hypothesis A formal statement describing an anticipated and measurable relationship(s) btwn concepts.
Research Diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation
Fact(s) Observations consistently proved true over time.
Principle(s) A truth, built on facts, that is foundational to other facts
Law(s) An absolute truth, built on facts and principles that guide thought and behaviour.
Established Theory Organized information that is intended to explain; may be established or speculative in nature.
Established Knowledge The culmination of the integration of what is known through education and experience.
