| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| energy | the ability to do work |
| electricity | energy that flows through a circuit and can produce heat, light, motion, and/ or sound |
| battery | a source of electricity created from stored chemical energy |
| circuit | the complete path of an electric current |
| transfer | to move from one place to another |
| electrical current | the flow of electricity through a conductor |
| light | visible evidence of energy |
| heat | observable evidence of thermal energy |
| motion | a change in position of an object or system |
| sound | observable evidence of energy, measured in decibels |
| conductor | a substance (material) that does allow electricity to flow easily |
| insulator | a substance (material) that does not allow electricity to flow through it |
| potential energy | energy that is stored and ready to use |
| kinetic energy | the energy of something in motion |
| chemical energy | energy that is created in a chemical reaction, |
| thermal energy | energy from heat |
| parallel circuit | a circuit where energy flows through receivers and also through a second path |
| series circuit | a circuit where energy flows through receivers back to the energy source |
