Year 5 Vocabulary List

TermDefinition
adaptation 1 : the act or process of changing to better suit a situation. 2 : a body part or feature or a behavior that helps a living thing survive and function better in its environment.
environment All the physical surroundings on Earth are called the environment. The environment includes everything living and everything nonliving.
habitat 1 A habitat is a place that an animal lives. It provides the animal with food, water and shelter. There are many different sorts of habitats around the world from forests to grasslands and from mountain slopes to deserts.
structural (1) (biology) An arrangement or organization of parts to form an organ, system, or living thing. (2) (ecology) A network or a hierarchy of interrelated parts of a system.
behavioural the scientific study of human and animal behaviour.
