atmosphere the layers of gas that surround our planet
hydrosphere the water on the planet
lithosphere the solid crust of the planet
altitude the increasing of height (moving from the ground to the sky)
temperature gradient when temperature changes with altitude changes
temperature inversion when cold air goes under a pocket of warm air; occurs in winter mostly; During inversions, temperature increases with altitude
troposphere the first layer of the atmosphere above the ground; where weather, breathable air, and heat are concentrated
ozone gas in the stratosphere that adsorbs most of the suns harmful ultraviolet radiation
stratosphere the layer above the troposphere that contains the ozone layer; it starts 10 km above ground
