What is physical/mechanical digestion? using force to break down food. Teeth for chewing
What is the function of the incisors? Cutting
What is the function of the canines? Tearing
What is the function of the premolars and molars? Grinding
What diet do omnivores have? Eat both plants and animals
What diet do carnivores have? Eat animals
What diet do herbivores have? Eat plants
What is chemical digestion? using enzymes to break down food.
What enzyme is found in our saliva? amylase
What is the function of the pancreas? Produces insulin and enzymes
What is the function of the liver? Produces bile
What is the function of bile? Breaks down fats
What is absorbed in the small intestine? Nutrients
What is absorbed in the large intestine? Water
Where does absorbed nutrients and water go in the digestive system? Into the bloodstream and delivered to the cells to use
What kind of digestion occurs in the stomach? Chemical and physical
What is stored in the rectum? Faeces
Where are faeces excreted from? Anus
The removal of metabolised waste in the body is called Excretion
