Qualitative Methodology

Phenomenology Goal is to describe the "lived" experience of an event
Case Study An in-depth study of individual(s) or situation(s)
Grounded Theory Research that leads to emergence of new understanding, concepts, or theories
Ethnography The systematic study of people and cultures used to understand behavior
Phenomenology Studying the response of families to trauma affecting one of the children
Case Study An in-depth review of patient(s) who develop decubitus ulcers
Grounded Theory The use of qualitative data to develop a new understanding of why patients in restraints become more combative
Ethnography Research used to understand why teen patients refuse to turn off their cell phones during clinic visits
