How does sound travel? Sound travels in waves It travels in all directions It travels best in solids And must have particles to bounce against
What is the difference between volume and pitch? Volume is loud and soft and deals with amount of sound Pitch is high or low and deals with frequency
Name an object that has high volume but low pitch A train whistle or a dog bark
Name something that has a high pitch but a low volume A bird tweeting, a scream, a flute
Why doesn’t sound travel through space? Because space is a vacuum and there are no particles for sound to vibrate against
Define transparent and give an example All light travels through it. For example: glass
Define translucent and give an example Some light travels through it. Example: black trash bag
Define opaque and give an example No light travels through it. Example: wood or metal
How does a mirror work? It reflects light creating an opposite reflection
Why should we protect our ears from high decibel sounds? High decibel noise can cause hearing Loss
If you were trying to study and there were many noises around you what could you do? Sound has a difficult time traveling through solids so you could use sound blocking headphones
Why would it be a problem for us if light did not travel through space? We would freeze Plants would not grow and the sun’s rays would not reach us
