Layers of the Earth

- Plate Tectonics - Part 1

TermDefinition
Lithosphere This layer is hard, brittle (breakable), and thin. It's also the least dense, and the coolest.
Asthenosphere "plastic-like". This is where the convection currents occur that move the lithospheric plates.
Mesosphere Also known as the lower mantle, and has hard rock that is extremely hot.
Outer core Liquid iron and nickel
Inner core Solid iron and nickel
