Integumentary | -barrier to pathogens/ chemicals -prevents excessive water loss |
Skeletal | -supports body -protects internal organs/ red bone marrow -provides framework to be moved by muscles |
Muscular | -moves the skeleton -produces |
Nervous | -interprets sensory info-->decides how to use it -regulates body functions such as movement by means of electrochemical impulses |
Endocrine | -regulates body functions-->growth/ reproduction by means of hormones -regulates day-to-day metabolism by means of hormones |
Circulatory | -transports oxygen/ nutrients to tissues and removes waste products |
Lymphatic | -returns tissue fluid to the blood -destroys pathogens that enter the body and provides immunity |
Respiratory | -exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide between air/ blood |
Digestive | -changes food into simple chemicals that can be absorbed and used by the body |
Urinary | -removes waste products from the blood -regulates volume and pH of blood/ tissue fluid |
Reproductive | -produces eggs/ sperm -provides site for developing embryo-fetus in women |
