| deposition | constructive force in which sediments that have been moved from one place are dropped or released in another place |
| storm drain | a system of pipes or channels that carry away storm water |
| Flood forecasting | The use of forecasted precipitation and streamflow data in rainfall-runoff and streamflow routing models to forecast flow rates and water levels for periods ranging from a few hours to days ahead, depending on the size of the watershed or river basin. |
| dam | A wall across a river that controls the flow of river water. |
| terrace farming | When crops are planted on level sections called terraces |
| levee | A wall along a river or other body of water that serves to prevent flooding by keeping water behind it. |

| seismological studies | The study of seismic waves and energy waves caused by rock suddenly breaking apart within the earth or the slipping of tectonic plates. We know these as events as earthquakes. |
| infrared satellite imagery | A display of objects like weather clouds, water, and land surfaces based on the temperature of the object. |
