| Term | Definition |

| Ozone Layer | Found in the stratosphere. Protects life on Earth by absorbing harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun. |
| Troposphere | The lowest layers of the atmosphere, in which temperature decreases as altitude increases. It contains 90% of the atmosphere's total mass. All weather occurs here. |
| Stratosphere | The layer above the troposphere. Temperature rises as altitude increases. |
| Mesosphere | The layer above the stratosphere. It is the coldest layer. Temperature decreases as altitude increases. |
| Thermosphere | The uppermost atmospheric layer. Temperature increases as altitude increases. |
| Conduction | The transfer of energy as heat through direct contact. |
| Radiation | The transfer of energy as electromagnetic waves through space. |
| Local Winds | Winds that are influenced by the geography of an area and blow over short distances. Ex= Land/sea breeze |
| Global Winds | Winds that blow steadily from specific directions over long distances. EX= trade winds/westerlies |
| Air Pressure | The measure of the force with which air molecules push on a surface. |
