| Term | Definition |

| Groundwater | Water that fills the cracks and pores in underground soil/rock layers. |
| Aquifer | an underground layer of rock or soil that holds water. |
| Condensation | Process by which a gas changes to a liquid. |
| Evaporation | Process by which a liquid changes to a gas. |
| Infiltration | The ability of water to move through soil. |
| Precipitation | Any form of water that falls to the Earth's surface from the clouds. |
| Transpiration | The process by which plants release water vapor through their leaves. |
| Runoff | Water that flows over the land into streams/rivers eventually making it back to the ocean. |
| Topography | The shape of the land determined by elevation, relief and landforms. |
| Salinity | The total amount of dissolved salts in a water sample. |
| Density | The amount of mass in a given space. |
| Wave | The movement of energy through a body of water. |
| Currents | A large stream of moving water that flows through the ocean. |
| Tides | The daily rise and fall of Earth's water on shores. |
| Coriolis Effect | The way Earth's rotation causes wind/water in the northern hemisphere to curve to the right and curve to the left in the southern hemisphere. |
| Conservation | The process of using a resource wisely so it will not be used up. |
