What Is a Plant
Chorophyll | A green photosynthetic pigment found in the choroplasts of plants,algea, and some bacteria |
photosynthesis | The process by which plants and other autotrophs capture and use light energy to make food from carbon dioxide and water |
Choroplast | Green jelly beans, are were the food is made |
tissues | groups of similer cells that perform a spesific function in a structure |
Vacuole | a large storage sac that can expand and shrink. |
Cuticle | A waxy, waterproof layer |
Vascular tissue | a system of tubelike structures inside a plant through which water, minerals, and food move |
Root cap | A structure that covers the tip of a root, protecting the root from injury as the root grows through the soil |
Cambium | A layer of cells in a plant that produces new phloem ans xylem cells |
Stoma | Small opening on the underside of a leaf through which oxygen, water, and cordon dioxide can move |
Transpriation | The process by which water is lost through a plant's leaves |
Embryo | The young organism that develops from a zygote |
Germination | The sprouting of the embryo out of a seed; occurs when the embryo resumes its growth following dormancy |
Flower | The reproductive structure of an organism |
Pollination | The transfer of pollen from male reproductive structures in plants |
Sepal | A leaf like structure that encolses and protects the bud of a flower |
Petal | A colorful, leaf like structure of some flowers |
Stamen | The male reproductive part of a flower |
Pistil | The female reproductive part of a flower |
Ovary | A flower structure that encloses and protects ovules and seeds as they develop |
