supplementary angles | Two angles that have a sum of 180 degrees |
congruent | Having the same shape and size |
transversal | A line that intersects two or more lines at different points |
alternate exterior angles | Angles that are outside the parallels and on opposite sides of the transversal |
alternate interior angles | Angles that are inside the parallels and on opposite sides of the transversal |
corresponding angles | Angles that are in the same (relative) spot |
vertical angles | A pair of angles formed by two intersecting lines |
exterior angle of a triangle | The angle formed by extending a side of a triangle |
remote interior angle | The nonadjacent angles across from an exterior angle of a triangle |
transformation | A change in the position or size of a figure on a plane |
preimage | The original image in a transformation |
image | The position of a figure after a transformation |
translation | A transformation that slides each point of a figure the same distance in the same direction |
reflection | A transformation in which a figure is flipped over a line of reflection |
rotation | A transformation in which each point of the pre-image turns around the center of rotation |
similar figures | Figures in which the lengths of the corresponding sides are proportional and corresponding angles are congruent |
proportion | An equation stating that two ratios are equal |
scale factor | The ratio of the lengths of any pair of corresponding sides or edges in similar figures |
dilation | Transforming a figure bigger or smaller |
hypotenuse | The side of a right triangle that is opposite the right angle |
legs | In a right triangle, the sides that form the right angle |
Pythagorean Theorem | a^2 + b^2 = c^2 |
surface area | The sum of the areas of the faces of a 3d figure |
lateral area | The sum of the areas of the lateral (side) face of a 3d figure |
