7th science exam

this is a great way to get ready for a 7th grade science exam

QuestionAnswer
What is scientific method? A form of a series of procedures
What are the parts of a scientific method? State the problem, gather information, form a hypothesis, perform an experiment, analyze data, draw conclusions.
5 traits of a living thing. organized, respond, energy, reproduce, grow develop.
Cytoplasm a gelatin like substance that constantly flows inside the cell membrane. important chemical reactions occur here.
Cell membrane An outer covering all cells have, it is made of one or more layers of linked molecules.
Cell wall tough rigid outer coverings that protect the cell and give it shape.
Nucleus Directs all cell activities and is separated from the cytoplasm by a membrane
Ribosome small structures scattered around the cell, make their own proteins.
Rough endoplasmic recticulum Extends from the nucleus to the cell membrane (has ribosomes on it). materials can be processed and moved around inside the cell.
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum Extends from the nucleus to the cell membrane. materials can be processed and moved around inside the cell.
Mitochondria The energy in food is stored until it is released by the...
Chloroplast Food is made in green organelles in the cytoplasm called...
Golgi body Stacked, flattened membranes, sorts proteins and other cellular substances and package them into membrane bound structures called vesicles.
Vacuole, Vesicle A space within the cytoplasm of a cell, enclosed by a membrane and typically containing fluid.
Lysosome Contain digestive chemicals that help break down food molecules, cell wastes, and worn out cell parts.
Cytoskeleton A framework through out the cytoplasm, which helps maintain or change its shape, they enable some cells to move.
Tissue a group of similar cells that work together to one job.
Organ a structure made up of two or more different types of tissues that work together.
Cell The smallest unit of an organism that carries on the functions of life.
What are the cell theory steps? All organisms are made up of one or more cells, The cell is the basic unit of organization in organisms, all cells come from cells.
Who concluded that plants are made of cells in the 1830s? Matthias Schleiden
Who concluded that all animals are made of cells? Theodor Schwann
Who hypothesized that cells divide to form new cells? Rudolf Virchow
If the eyepiece of a microscope is 10x and the lense is 4x, what is the total? 40x
If the eyepiece of a microscope is 10x and the lense is 40x, what is the total? 400x
Virus A strand of hereditary material surrounded by a protein coating.
Is a virus living? No
Why is a virus living or why is it not living? Viruses are not living because they lack a cell membrane, nucleus, and organelles.
How can a virus be treated? Vaccinating people, improving sanitary conditions, quarantining patients, and controlling animals that spread disease.
Matter Anything that takes up space and is made of atoms (even air).
Energy anything that brings about change.
What are atoms made of? Protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Protons Positive charge
Neutron No charge
Electron Negative charge
Is a virus a non living thing? Yes
