Chemical weathering Chemical reactions dissolve minerals in rocks or change them into different minerals.

Weathering The surface processes that break down rock into small pieces called sediment.
Mechanical This type of weathering occurs when physical process break apart rock without changing its chemical makeup. It can be caused by ice wedging, animals, and plant roots.
Chemical This type of weathering occurs when chemical reactions dissolve the minerals in rocks or change them into different minerals.
