| Source | A person, place or thing from which something comes or can be obtained. |
| Primary Source | a primary source is an artifact, a document, diary, manuscript, autobiography, a recording, or any other source of information that was created at the time under study. |
| Secondary Source | information that was created later by someone who did not experience first-hand or participate in the events or conditions you're researching. |
| Artifact | an object made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest. |
| Document | a piece of written, printed, or electronic matter that provides information or evidence or that serves as an official record. |
| The Historical Record | Writing having historical value. |
| Observation | the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information. |
| Authoritative | able to be trusted as being accurate or true; reliable. |
| Interpretation | the action of explaining the meaning of something. |
