Scientific Method

TermDefinition
scientific method an orderly process used to answer a scientific question
problem the question to be answered by the scientific method
hypothesis proposed solution to the problem; educated guess
variables anything that may change or vary in appearance or form in an experiment
procedure detailed steps used to test a hypothesis
limiting the variables changing only one variable in an experiment
control group the standard for comparison in an experiment; kept under normal conditions
experimental group has one variable changed; all other variables are the same as the control
data measurements and other observations gathered from an experiment
conclusion statement of whether or not the hypothesis is supported, based on the experimental results
