| Scientific Theory | a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. |
| Scientific Law | must always apply under the same conditions and implies a causal relationship between its elements; they also make predictions. |
| Formula for Density | D(ensity) = M(ass) / V(olume) or D=M/V. |
| Index Contours | contour lines already marked with an elevation. |
| Contour Interval | the distance between side by side contours. |
| Benchmarks | located on the tops of mountains or hills that tell the exact elevation. |
