QuestionAnswer
What are nucleic acids? Stores coded information for cells.
What is the relationship between an enzyme and a substrate? Between enzyme and ribosomes? Substrates are the molecule enzymes attach to and change into 2 substances. Ribosomes make proteins and some proteins carry certain enzymes.
Define Enzymes Proteins that speed up the rate of a chemical reaction without being used up.
Define metabolism All chemical reactions in an organism.
Define photosynthesis Light energy is converted into chemical energy by producers; use enzymes.
Define producers Make their own food
What's the relationship between photosynthesis and producers? Most producers use sunlight to make their own food, they absorb sunlight and use it to make glucose which they break down for energy.
Write down and memorize the equation for photosynthesis 6C02 + 6H20 + Energy --> C6 H12 + 6O2 Carbon Water Yields Glucose Oxygen Dioxide
Cellular Respiration: Explain what, where it occurs, what is needed for glucose to be broken down? Chemical reactions that break down glucose into simpler substances and released stored energy Starts in cytoplasm and moves into mitochondria Uses oxygen to break down glucose for energy (ATP)
Write down and memorize the equation for respiration C6H12 + 6O2 --> 6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy Glucose Oxygen Oxygen Carbon Water Dioxide
Define Fermination (3 Parts) Breakdown of glucose begins in cytoplasm and doesn't move Occurs when oxygen is not present Does not release as much energy as respiration
What are the waste products from fermentation? Lactic acid: formed in muscles cells after exercise. - Formed by some bacteria and is used to make yogurt and cheese. Alcohol and carbon dioxide: formed when yeast breaks down glucose.
What's the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration? Photosynthesis makes the glucose that is broken down during respiration for energy.
What is the difference between a suspension and a solution? Both are mixtures but a solution has particles that are evenly mixed while a suspension does not. Therefore, particles fall out and fall to the bottom.
What's the difference between lipids and proteins? Lipids are fat and oils Proteins are used to build muscles

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
