| strata | In geology, a layer of rock |
| nonconformity | An unconformity between sedimentary rock and either igneous or metamorphic rock |
| unconformity | A surface of erosion that separates one layer of rock from another |
| paraconformity | An unconformity for which there is no evidence, but geologists think should exist |
| angular unconformity | an unconformity where the strata are tilted relative to each other |
| disconformity | An unconformity between two layers of sedimentary rock. |
| Intrusion | "Veins" of igneous rock that shoot right through several layers of sedimentary rock |
| dikes | intrusions that run perpendicular to the strata |
| sill | intrusions that run parallel to the strata |
| humus | the decayed remains of once-living creatures |
| Lamination | A layer of rock less then 1 centimeter thick |
| Laminae | Many layers of lamination stacked together |
| Sediments | Sand, silt, minerals, and other components of soil |
| Delta | A typically fan shaped area where a river deposits it's sediments at it's mouth |
