What is one year The time that it takes for the Earth to complete one revolution around the sun.
What is one day? The time that it takes for Earth to complete one rotation on its axis.
What is the difference between 'Rotation" and "Revolution?" 'Rotation' is when the Earth spins on its axis. 'Revolution' is when the Earth orbits around the sun
Which direction does the Earth spin when rotating? Earth spins toward the East.
It is commonly said that the sun 'rises in the East and sets in the West' but this is not true. What is actually happening? As the Earth rotates towards the East, The sun is first visible in the East. The sun APPEARS to move westward and is last visible in the West
What causes night? The point on Earth where you are has rotated out of view of the sun.
Name four components of the Earth's System that we have learned about. Biosphere, Hydrosphere, Geosphere, Atmosphere
Which of these spheres contains all water on, above, or inside of the Earth? The Hydrosphere
Why is water so important? Life cannot exist without water.
Which of these spheres contains all living things on Earth? The Biosphere
Which of these spheres contain most of the mass on Earth? The Geosphere
The force of gravity is determined by: Mass and distance between two objects.
What effect does the mass of the Earth have on the moon? Earth's gravity pulls the moon toward the Earth.
What is a constructive force? A force that adds (or builds) land mass
What is a destructive force? A force that takes away land mass.
Why is erosion a destructive force? It slowly wears away land masses
Why is a volcanic eruption a constructive force? Because it adds lava to the land mass and surrounding.
