Chemical Bond the force that holds atoms together in a compound
Chemical Equation a way to describe a chemical reaction using chemical formulas and other symbols
Chemical Reaction the process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substances
Coefficient a small whole number that appears in front of a formula in a balanced chemical equation
Electron Dot Diagram A model of an atom in which each dot represents a valence electron
Ion A particle that is electrically charged (positive or negative)
Ionic Bond A chemical bond resulting from the attraction between oppositely charged ions
Law of Conservation of Mass the law that states that energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be changed from one form to another
Metallic Bond a bond formed by the attraction between positively charged metal ions and the electrons around them
Product A substance produced in a chemical reaction
Reactant A chemical substance that is present at the start of a chemical reaction
Valence Electron The electrons that are on the outermost energy level of an atom and are involved in chemical reactions
