What are the four characteristics of minerals? 1) Has crystal structure 2) Inorganic 3) Solid 4) Forms in nature
What is the streak of a mineral? Color of mineral when rubbed on a surface (powder)
What is fracture? When minerals break along curved or irregular surfaces
How does the Mohs Hardness Scale work? Sorts different minerals from hardest (10-diamond) to softest (1-talc)
Can oil and natural gas be classified as minerals? Why? No, all minerals must have solid form. Oil ad natural gas are not solids.
What is luster? The way the mineral reflects light
What are the two categories of luster? Metallic and non-metallic
What is cleavage? When minerals split along smooth, flat surfaces
