Fresh Water

TermDefinition
Water cycle process by which water is circulated throughout the earth and the atmosphere through evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and the transpiration of plants and animals. Also called hydrologic cycle.
Infiltration to pass into or through (a substance) by filtering or permeating
Evaporation When water vapor rises
Condensation The cooling of water vapor
Precipitation The fall of water vapor
Transpiration Transpiration is the process of water movement through a plant and its evaporation from aerial parts, such as leaves, stems and flowers.
Groundwater Groundwater is the water present beneath Earth's surface in soil
Run off Excess water after precipitation that is on the ground
Water Table The water table is the upper surface of the zone of saturation. The zone of saturation is where the pores and fractures of the ground are saturated with water.
Artesian Well a well in which water is under pressure; especially :one in which the water flows to the surface naturally.
Aquifer An aquifer is an underground layer of water-bearing rock.
Springs A spring is the result of an aquifer being filled to the point that the water overflows onto the land surface.
