Flagellum | The tail-like structure that propels a bacterium through liquid. |
Cellular Respiration | The process that releases energy by breaking down glucose and other food molecules in the presence of oxygen. |
Binary Fission | A form of asexual reproduction where a cell divides into two cells. |
Conjugation | A form of sexual reproduction where a single-cell organism transfers some of its genetic material to another single-cell organism. |
Endospore | A structure produced when prokaryotes are in harsh conditions that encases the DNA and protects it. |
Pasteurization | The process of heating a food to a high temperature to kill any bacteria on it, while still keeping its taste. |
Decomposer | An organism that feeds on waste and dead organisms, then returns materials to the environment. |
