bacteria | single celled organisms with genetic material not contained in the nucleus |
cytoplasm | gel like fluid that moves structures through the cell |
ribosome | chemical factories where proteins are produced |
flagellum | a long whip like structure that helps a cell to move |
cellular resperation | the process of breaking down food to release energy |
binary fission | when one cell divides into two identical cells |
conjugation | when one bacterium transfers it's genetic material through a thin, thread like bridge. |
endospore | a small rounded thick-walled resting cell that forms inside of a bacteria cell |
pasteurization | when food is heated to a temperature that is high enough to kill most harmful bacteria without changing the taste |
decomposer | an organisms that break down large, complex chemicals in dead organisms into small, simple chemicals |
