Ch 5.2 Climate Regions
Term | Definition |

rain forest | climate zone that receives at least 2m of rain per year, located mostly on the tropical wet climate zone |
steppe | a prairie or grassland found in semiarid regions |
savanna | grassland located close to the equator that may include shrubs and small trees and receives as much as 120 cm of precipitation a year |
desert | a dry climate region that receives on average less than 25cm of rain a year |
humid subtropic | a wet and warm climate found on the edges of the tropics |
subarctic | climate zone that lies north of the humid continental climates |
permafrost | permanently frozen soil found in the tundra |
tundra | an extremely cold and dry climate region characterized by short, cool summers and bitterly cold winters |
