kinetic energy the energy of motion
nonrenewable energy a source of energy that will eventually run out, such as oil, coal, and natural gas
potential energy stored energy that an object has because of its position
radiant energy energy that moves in waves. Radiant energy from the sun is the source of most energy on Earth
renewable energy Wood, wind, hydro, geotermal, tidal, and solar are forms of renewable energy
transformation the conversion of energy from one form of energy to another, such as the conversion of mechanical energy to electrical energy, or of potential energy to kinetic energy
chemical weathering occurs when water containing dissolved gases and other chemicals causes minerals in rocks to be changed, leading to the deterioration of the rock.
gas state of matter that does not have a definite shape or volume. Has a lot of space between them
liquid state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape. Molecules are not packed closely together
physical weathering when water, ice, animals, or plant roots break apart rocks producing small particles and sand. There is no change to the minerals that form the rock
solid state of matter that has a definite shape and a definite volume. Molecules in a solid are densely packed

natural resources things, such as land, water, atmosphere and all plants and animals in an environment and are necessary or useful to humans
nonrenewable resource any natural resources from the Earth that exist in limited supply and cannot be replaced if they are used up
pollution an introduction of harmful substances into an environment
recycle to alter or adapt an object for new use without changing the essential form or nature of the object
reduce to diminish in size, amount, extent or number
renewable resources any natural resources that can replenish themselves naturally over time, such as wood or solar energy
resource materials that people use
reuse to use again especially in a different way
stewardship the act of taking care of something
