minor planet Minor planets and asteriods are the same thing.
asteriod also known as minor planets, look more like stars than planets called asteroids, meaning starlike
comet a celestial object consisting of a nucleus of ice and dust and, when near the sun, a “tail” of gas and dust particles pointing away from the sun.
head One of the two main parts of a comet. front part of a comet
tail 2nd main part of a comet, "tail" end
nucleus the very middle of a comet. often made out of rock dust and ice
coma the outside of the head of a comet
ices frozen material in a comet
type I tail a tail of a comet that forms quickly and is mainly gas pushed away from the sun by solar winds. more straight
type II tail a tail of a comet that forms more slowly and is made mainly of dust that is pushed away from the sun by the pressure of sunlight. more floppy
periodic comet a comet that keeps returning and has an elliptical orbit
Kuiper belt a donut-shaped region of space beyond the orbit or Uranus, short period comets come from here
meteoroid a particle of rock or dust in space that orbits the sun
meteor When a meteoroid enter the earths atmosphere and begins to glow
fireball an extra spectacular meteor
bolide an exploding fireball
train a lighted trail left by a meteor
meteorite meteoroids that land on the earth
sporadic meteor random meteors
shower meteors a number of meteors that appear to radiate from one point in the sky at a particular date each year, due to the earth's regularly passing through a field of particles at that position in its orbit. Meteor showers are named after the constellation in whic
perseids Aug. 12 shower meteor
Leonids Nov. 17 shower meteor
stones ( stony meteorites) Meteorites composed of mainly stones
irons Meteorites composed mainly of irons
stony irons Meteorites composed or iron and stones
chondrule a spheroidal mineral grain present in large numbers in some stony meteorites
