| depth of feild | the distance above the slide in which the object is in good focus |
| field of view | what you see when you look through the eye piece of the mic |
| focal plane | a thin plane at a fixed distance from the objective lens where the image is in focus. |
| inverted | flipped top to bottom |
| inverted scale | a scale reversed in position, order, or relationship |
| mount | a glass slide with its accessories on which objects are placed on to look at |
| occular | the eyepiece on a microscope |
| optical power | the product of the magnifications of the eyepiece and the objective lens |
| power | magnification |
| reflective | capable of reflecting light |
| resolution | in microscopes, a measure of the clarity of an image |
| resolving power | the ability to distinguish between two separate points that are very close together |
| reversed | flipped left to right |
| simple microscope | a microscope having only one lens |
| total magnification | optical power found through multiplying the eyepiece with the objective lens |
