CHANGES OF STATE Also known as phase change: the process of changing a substance from one state to another by adding or removing heat
CONDENSATION A change of state from gas to liquid when heat is removed.
EVAPORATION A change in state from liquid to gas when heat is added.
FREEZE The change in state from liquid to solid as heat is removed.
GAS The state of matter which particles have the most energy and where particles spread out to fill the whole container.
LIQUID A state of matter in between solid and gas states. Particles in the liquid state have some energy and can slide over each other so they take up the shape of the container they occupy.
MELT The process of changing a substance from its solid state into a liquid by adding heat.
SOLID The state of matter where the particles are in a fixed position so the substance keeps its shape.
STATE OF MATTER Also known as matter. Anything that has particles which have a mass and take up space (volume).
