| lithosphere | outer most layer, extends from the surface of Earth to a depth of about 70-100 km |
| asthenosphere | layer under the lithosphere "plastic", depths between approximately 80 and 200 km |
| tectonic plates | rigid, outermost layer of earth divided into pieces |
| erosion | the removal and transpotation of surface matterial |
| atmosphere | gasses that surround the earth, 480 km thick |
| troposphere | layer nearest the earths surface, starts at Earth's surface and goes up to a height of 7 to 20 km |
| stratosphere | above the troposphere, starts at 18 km |
| ozone | molocule made up of 3 oxygen atoms |
| radiation | transfer of energy accrosed space |
| conduction | transfer of heat by CONTACT |
| convection | transfer of of heat by AIR |
| green house affect | proccess where gasses are traped |
| water cycle | continous movement of water |
| salinity | salt in the ocean |
| open system | both matter and energy extanged |
| closed system | energy enters |
