names of organelles and their funtions

TermDefinition
nucleus directs all of the cell's activity, the boss of the cell, it's big and it's round.
cell membrane protects the cell and allows water in and out of the cell.
cell wall protects the plant cell and gives it strength.
chloroplasts captures energy from the sun make food, green organelles.
vacuole stores water and some other materials.
mitochondria the cells energy is produced here. Rod shape, looks like little shoes.
lysosomes breaks down food and worn out cells small round
ribosomes factories that produce protein,tiny,round dots that sometimes attach together.
endoplasmic reticulum like a freeway...carries material around the cell.
golgi bodies takes material from the er, packages it, and sends it out to the cell.
cytoplasms holds the organelles. gel-like
