Cellular Respiration The breaking down of food to yield energy
Climax Community A community that is stable
Consumer Gets energy by eating other organisms
Decomposer Get food by breaking down dead organisms
Ecological Succession Gradual change of species in an environment
Food Chain Energy is transferred from one organism to another
Food Web Shows feeding relationships in an ecosystem
Nitrogen Cycle Nitrogen gets cycled through the atmosphere, bacteria, etc.
Nitrogen Fixation When bacteria can fix atmospheric nitrogen into chemical compounds
Phosphorous Cycle The movement of phosphorus from the environment to an organism back to the environment
Photosynthesis Plants using sunlight to make their own food
Pioneer Species First organisms to colonize in a new area
Primary Succession An area where no ecosystem has been before
Producer Organism that makes its own food
Secondary Succession Where an ecosystem already was then another came and thrived in that area
Tropic Level The levels in the Food we and the Food Chain
