Electromagnetic Waves 93% of the suns energy out put is this.
neutrinos Tiny particles that travel at the speed of light. make up the other 7 percent of the suns energy
wavelengths the distance from the top (crest) of one wave to the top of the next
spectroscope an instrument used to identify specific colors
spectrum the wavelengths that compose an light from and object
diffraction grating glass or plastic containing thousands of microscopic lines
plasma superheates ionized matter that cannot be calssified as solid liquid or gas
photosphere the visible surface of the sun
granules small cell that the suns surface is made of.
sunspots dark areas that appear on the sun
umbra the dark inner portion of sunspots
penumbra the brighter outer portion of sunspots
solar flare severe storms on the sun
radiation x-rays radio waves ultraviolet rays
chromosphere part of the suns atmosphere
corona outer or crown part of the suns atmosphere
coronograph an instrument used to make is look like the sun has had an eclipse
spicule pointed jets of plasma on the sun
faculae plages that emit light in enough different wavelengths that it appears wight in photographs
plages clouds of plasma that emit light in a single or just a few wavelengths
solar winds a flow of mostly and electrons from the sun
prominence streams of material that appear to rise into the corona from the chromosphere and gradually fall back
core the innermost section of the sun
radiative zone the zone next to the core
photon a packet of electromagnetic energy containing an amount of energy related to its wavelength
pressure an amount of force over an designated area
convective zone the zone after the radiative zone

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
